Ayurveda is a practice dating back thousands of years. The Vedas, one of the earliest recorded accounts of this practice, describe gods passing knowledge and wisdom to sages, and then sages passing it on to doctors. Ayurvedic medicine is far more than just medicine. This 5,000 years long-standing tradition originated in India. It has since spread throughout the world, influencing, and enriching the lives of many people. Ayurveda is primarily concerned with prevention. According to this philosophy, overall health and wellness is a result of a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.

Ayurvedic techniques are used by some people to preserve their health and alleviate stress. It increases flexibility, strength, and stamina. People with conditions like asthma, high blood pressure, and arthritis may benefit from practices like yoga and meditation. Ayurveda emphasizes healthy nutrition for optimum health and disease treatment. The type of herbal remedy prescribed to everyone is based on their dosha.

This is what Americans should know about Ayurveda

It does have a scientific basis

Ayurveda is not only a science, but it extends beyond that. There has been extensive documentation of Ayurveda’s ancient principles. The practice will also continue. Ayurveda is a result-oriented system. Studies have shown that ancient sages conducted clinical trials and research to improve their knowledge of Ayurveda. Several herbal compositions dating back hundreds of years are still in use today.

By dissecting the bodies of the dead, the ancients gained an understanding of human anatomy. There were surgeries even before there was a medical system. Acharya Sushruta was one of the first surgeons to perform plastic surgery and is known as the “Father of Surgery.” One of the oldest surviving Ayurvedic treatises is Charaka, and the other is Sushruta Samhita. Ayurveda, unlike contemporary medicine, treats each person as an individual, allowing for a faster recovery.

For everyone, not just the elderly

A widespread misconception is that Ayurveda is only for the elders. Ayurveda, on the other hand, is for everyone, regardless of their age or health problems. Ayurvedic medicine can also aid in prevention, even if it does not totally heal an illness. Ayurveda has been a component of Indian traditional medicine for generations. It has not only gained popularity among millennials but has also spread everywhere across international borders. Modern Ayurveda, with its holistic nature, can help with a variety of conditions. It can contribute to overall good health if studied thoroughly and correctly.

Ayurveda promoted self-love way before social media

In Ayurveda, there are three main types of body types and different personality traits known as doshas. A trio of doshas is known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Individuals tend to belong to one dosha. Some people, however, are a mixture of both, with one dominant over the other. Instead of comparing yourself to others, Ayurveda urges people to develop love within themselves. It wants everyone to recognize that they are unique. Also, it is built to help people approach their life in the most unique sense. It motivates you to learn about yourself, as well as grow, heal, and reflect on your life.

It is more than just a vegetarian philosophy

Ayurveda is not just a vegetarian philosophy, contrary to popular assumption. Its ancient manuscripts outline the various methods of meat cooking. Most Ayurvedic doctors and clinicians, on the other hand, prefer to follow a mostly vegetarian Ayurvedic diet. This is because it is regarded ‘karmically inappropriate’ to kill animals. With the industrialization of food production, animal foods are becoming more harmful to our health. Hunting and wild farming are things of the past. Therefore, you must be extremely cautious about where and how you purchase your meats. It promotes vegetarian diets because it cleanses and detoxifies the mind-body as much as it nourishes it.

A way of life

Ayurveda is more than just a medical method; it is a way of life. Yes, there is a lot of information about plants and home treatments, but that is not all. Ayurvedic principles can help you live a more balanced, healthy, and productive life if you follow them to the word. Furthermore, Ayurvedic medications contain herbal, mineral, oil, and other natural ingredient compositions based on an individual’s Prakriti. Ayurveda is highly effective if the patient approaches it at an early stage and allows it to work.

Ayurveda, a route to good health

Western medicine is concerned with the cure of disease. Whereas, Ayurveda medicine is concerned with disease prevention. Ayurvedic practitioners believe that maintaining energy balance through nutrition, exercise, and awareness is essential to general health. The immune system can more successfully ward off disease when stress levels are low and your body and energies are in balance. Consider further study before making any major lifestyle changes if you believe Ayurveda is for you. Before discontinuing any medication or beginning any supplements or treatments, see your healthcare provider. Consider finding out a medical specialist with a strong background in both Western and ayurvedic medicine. Also read: Why Ayurveda is not licensed in the United States?
