Nowadays, we all need a life where we can eat anything without thinking about its consequences. We all want to munch on our favorite food whenever we want. There are so many foods that we consume that have no nutritional value. But our body does not function according to our wishes. We cannot go on consuming anything we want.

The human body needs various nutrients for survival. These nutrients are received by consuming different types of healthy foods. To keep your body functioning healthily, keep your gut happy and healthy. Our gut is a sensitive area that can react if we do not eat the right food. There are several supplements and natural foods available that can keep our gut healthy.

What are Postbiotics?

Our gastrointestinal tract (GI) is a residence of various good and bad bacteria. These bacteria play an important role in digestion and provide resistance to a stomach problem. Sometimes, we find it helpful to consume yogurt after finishing a course because it relieves our stomach and also helps indigestion. Food like yogurt, kimchi, or any other fermented food helps in maintaining peace between good and bad bacteria. Probiotics are ‘friendly bacteria’ that allow our stomach to ease and make nutrients more soluble. As a result, our stomach can easily absorb these nutrients. The probiotics work hard to comfort our stomach and hence need feeding.

The foods like bananas, garlic, and onions provide non-digestible carbohydrates which can provide food for probiotic bacteria. These food supplements are ‘Prebiotics’ which create a helpful short-chain of fatty acids and work in a group with probiotics to maintain a peaceful environment in our gut.

Whereas ‘Postbiotics’ are the residual products that your body produces after digesting both prebiotic and probiotic substances. Postbiotics are a recent addition to the family of biotics and consist of microbial cells, cell constituents, and metabolites. Although they are new members of the biotic family, they have a great impact on our immune system. They also help in maintaining the gut lining. The postbiotics are residuals and a byproduct of probiotic fermentation. Therefore the main source of having them in our gut remains probiotic food. Food like yogurt, pickles, buttermilk, and so on are the major source of postbiotics.

Benefits of Postbiotics

Strong Immune System – Our gut is sensitive to infections that can occur by eating anything bad. The stomach can also get affected if bad bacteria begin to outnumber the good bacteria. This situation can lead to indigestion and other stomach-related issues. Postbiotics can help by improving the efficiency of the gut to fight back the infection by increasing the antibodies against the external harmful agents.

Reduces inflammation- The imbalance between the good and bad bacteria can make the gut lining inflamed. This further can cause diseases like ulcers and improper bowel movements. Postbiotics have anti-inflammatory effects on cells that can ease the gut lining making them less swollen.

Helps in Digestion-  When food like buttermilk and yogurt are consumed, they ease our stomach and allow digestion to take place easily. These foods are rich in fibers and get easily soluble in the stomach bringing it to ease.

Helps in Diarrhea-  The imbalance in food can cause various harms to the body. Our gut can get upset and we can see bad bacteria at their peak affecting our stomach. The consumption of postbiotics can ease the lining of the gut by bringing equilibrium between good and bad bacteria.

A Happy And Healthy Gut

Our life depends on what we consume for survival. To have a healthy life it is necessary to include a balanced diet in our routine. A diet that can make our gut happy instead of upsetting it. Our gut has a microbiome that consists of several bacteria which are important to keep it healthy and lively. These bacteria can be good or bad. Good bacteria help the gut to fight the infection and external pathogens that can affect the stomach. However, the number of good bacteria can decrease if we avoid consuming a healthy meal. The bad bacteria can multiply themselves in this scenario and can become the reason for several diseases. Postbiotics are new to the biotic family and are made by the residuals of probiotics and prebiotics. They play an important role in maintaining a healthy gut. Their inclusion in our diet can bring a great change to our healthy life.
