Many people keep pets according to their choice. Pets are friendly and can be a great companion for humans. Commonly people love to keep cats, dogs, rabbits, fish, and birds. Pets require particular care as they are delicate and cannot speak out their emotions and feelings.

We can express ourselves if we are uncomfortable in any condition. But animals cannot do so and hence require separate management. We all need something specific according to the weather outside. In summers, we regulate our body temperature by consuming ice-creams, soft drinks, juices, and all. In winters, we layer our bodies to keep them warm. We love drinking hot drinks during winters to avoid the cold. We take proper measures to keep our health safe. Our pets require similar care as we do. In winters especially, when our body feels inactive most of the time.

Pet Care Tips

Keep your pets inside

Even we are too lazy to get up and move out of the house in winters. Think about these little creatures who cannot say anything. On these chilly days, avoid unnecessary outings with your pet. Allow them to stay at home at ease. Staying inside in four walls will maintain their body temperature.

Warm clothing

Pets have furs as their natural clothes. These furs allow their body to remain warm and moist. Not all have an equal number of furs, and in a few the volume of fur is quite low. They can feel cold more easily than other animals. If they feel chilly, cover their body with a few extra pieces of clothing. The layer of clothing will keep their body temperature balanced and will protect them from getting chills.

Avoid direct heat

Naturally, we humans use heaters and other appliances to keep our bodies warm during winters. But these appliances can affect our pets if they mistakenly get near the heaters or any other heating product. These appliances can cause a burning sensation in our pets. To avoid this, preheat a room and then allow your pet to enjoy the warmth.

Avoid unnecessary trimming

Naturally, the fur of the pet’s body will grow like hair on our bodies. As hairs of our body protect our skin from getting in direct touch with an external agent similarly furs of animals protect their body in several ways. They are like nature-gifted clothes to them and act as a natural protective shield. We should avoid trimming these furs in winters as they allow their body to trap heat naturally. Whereas trimming can make their body catch cold fast.

Take them out on a sunny day

We all love sunny days in winters. It is one of the natural ways to keep our bodies warm. At home, we all remain super inactive and do not want to do anything at all. Our pets also do certain things while looking at us. Our inactive state can make them inactive too. Allow your pets too to enjoy these sunny days. Take your pet with you when there is good exposure to the sun. Exposure to the sun will keep their body active.

Take care of their paws

Paws are the sensitive body part of a pet and require exceptional care. As pets walk on their paws, there are high chances that they might get cold if they walk with bare paws. So, either cover their paws with pet shoes or massage them with oil to maintain their body heat. This method can reduce the chances of your pet getting cold.

Give them a spot

We all love to travel and roam from place to place but there is one place where we get back at the end of the day. This is known as our spot. Similarly, our pets also cannot remain in one area. They love to tour the entire house and play wherever they find a place. And to avoid this you can make a calming spot for your pet. By doing so, your pet will get a cozy place to rest and enjoy. You can also keep their favorite toys with them.

Moisturize their body

Even our body gets cracked up in winters due to lack of moisture. And few people also get allergies if the temperature drops a lot. These issues can occur with your pets too. To avoid this, massage their body and paws with coconut oil. You can also add foods to their diet that provide moisture to them. You can add fatty acids like omega-3s and omega-6s to their diet as they can be a reliable source of regaining moisture. If the situation gets worse than do not delay consulting a veteran.

Keep your pet hydrated

Dehydration can be life-threatening in a few animals. Even humans suffer a lot when they reduce their water intake. It is necessary to keep your pet’s bowl filled with something liquid every time so that they can consume the right amount of liquid intake.

Do not overfeed your pet

Having a balanced diet is more important than anything else. But it does not mean that you will keep consuming it every minute. The same goes for your pet. We should avoid overfeeding them unnecessarily. Consult your vet to know the proper diet for your pet and follow a diet chart accordingly.

A Happy Companion

Surviving in winters can be tricky sometimes, not only for humans but for our pets too. A human body can look after itself. We know what suits us best and can find our comfortable things easily. But this is not the case with our pets. They are like babies who need proper care and someone to look after them. Although nature provided them with natural ways to deal with their bodies, it does not mean that we completely leave them on their own. They are not capable of coming to us and saying it loud that they are feeling cold or are uncomfortable. We must understand their behavior on our own. We should keep track of the things that make them comfortable during winters. Pets are great companions if we know the right way to love them and care for them. Hence, we should look after them like we do for our family members. Also read- 10 Things Chihuahua owners should know.
