Addiction to anything can never be beneficial, however good it is. Addictions destroy lives, people, and happiness. While not everybody is looking to get over their addiction, some people want to withdraw and get back to the happy life they had before falling into the hands of addiction. Alcohol provides relief while it is a trap. It is well-known that on the way to finding relief, we often get derailed to ignorance. People succumb to alcohol because it helps them ignore the responsibilities and the troubles they are facing. They believe they are incompetent to face them all and alcohol reinforces their false belief. However, as aforementioned, it is a trap many of us fail to recognize in the face of stress and loneliness. Nonetheless, addiction is not a permanent problem if you are willing to do away with it. And, here is a friendly guide to show you exactly how.  

Set Yourself a Goal

What exactly do you think when you think about overcoming your addiction? Be specific about why you want to get over alcohol. State the precise reasons behind your decision. This helps you keep determined when times get hard.  

Put it in Writing 

Putting something down in writing lets your brain know that this is real and not just another one of your thoughts. It helps you act on it. Things that are written appeal a lot more to our conscience than the things just in our heads. Besides, putting it down in writing also forms a sort of commitment. Paste it where you can look at it frequently, like your desk, near your bed, your refrigerator, or anywhere else.  

Announce Your Goal

This might appear trivial and unimportant, but announcing your goals helps a lot. When you announce you are working on something, there might be people who help you get there faster, or just keep you moving. Additionally, letting people know you are focusing on withdrawal makes it easier to refuse to join them for a drink later.

Remove On-Hand Temptations

This simply means do not keep alcohol or alcoholic beverages near you, i.e., inside your house or at your office. Try not to pass from in front of bars or the places you used to go to for drinks. Select Alcohol-Free Days

It is not possible to stop drinking the moment you think of it, not when you are addicted to it. Therefore, it is important to decide on alcohol-free days. Mark your calendar for the days you will not go anywhere near alcohol. It might sound childish at first, but when you put it to practice, you will see the outcomes. Do not forget to reward yourself when you achieve short-term goals! 

Watch Out for Peer Pressure 

Just like people fall to drinking under peer pressure, they are likely to relapse to drinking under the same influence too. Find out the people who are likely to force you to start drinking again. Try to slowly cut them off. Replace them with people who understand how it works and are willing to help you through it.  

Change Your Circle

People might not force you to drink with them, but being in their company while they drink or are making plans about when they are going to drink next can take a toll on your willpower. Change the group of people you spend time together with. Sometimes, it might get difficult since they might be your colleagues or business partners. Drink Slowly

You need to drink slower whenever you do while you are trying to overcome alcohol addiction. Take a sip in half an hour. Drink at a steady rate. It helps you control your senses. Keep an eye on how fast and how much you drink so you can record it in your diary later.  

Guard Against Temptation

Predictably, you can get tempted easily in the early days. The same makes it necessary that you remove all temptations and additionally have guards for the times you do feel tempted.
