Cannabis has a long history of therapeutic use. There are several chemical compounds found in cannabis plants called cannabinoids. While tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most common and well-known for its psychoactive characteristics, cannabidiol (CBD), the second most abundant component, is not psychoactive. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in CBD oil and hemp oil’s possible mental health benefits. Some scientific research suggests that it can help with symptoms of chronic pain and anxiety, which is why it is gaining popularity in the health and wellness sector. Therefore, it is important to know about their benefits and side effects. 

CBD oil: Let us learn more! 

CBD oil is a cannabis-derived product. A cannabinoid is a natural substance found in marijuana plants. Even though it comes from marijuana plants, CBD does not produce a “high” or any type of intoxication. But THC is the cannabinoid that does. As marijuana has become a recreational drug, there is some debate about cannabis products like CBD oil. However, people are becoming more aware of the potential mental health benefits of CBD oil. It is used in making creams and gels. You can take them orally or apply them directly to the skin. Before using CBD oil, you must see your doctor. 

CBD oil brings an array of benefits 

  • Say bye to your anxiety- Anxiety is a concern for many people around the world. An estimated 19.1 percent of people in the United States suffer from anxiety problems each year. Several trials have shown that CBD oil can treat anxiety symptoms. A study examined the neurobiological basis for CBD’s ability to alleviate symptoms of social anxiety disorder. An analysis of existing preclinical research on the use of CBD for anxiety published in the journal Neurotherapeutics in 2015 indicated that CBD was useful for several anxiety problems. It is useful for many problems including anxiety disorder, OCD, social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. 
  • Inability to sleep- CBD oil has a relaxing effect. Therefore, it can be useful in the treatment of sleep problems. Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine, and therefore, is important for our mental health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one-third of adult Americans do not get enough sleep every night. This is an issue because lack of sleep has been related to health problems like depression, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
  • Getting rid of depression- The National Institute of Mental Health reports that depression is one of the most common mental disorders affecting 17.3 million Americans every year. CBD has been studied to see if it has antidepressant properties. Some antidepressants work by interacting with the brain’s serotonin receptors. There is a link between depression and low serotonin levels, and studies have suggested that CBD may act on these receptors in a positive way. CBD does not appear to increase serotonin levels but affects how the brain processes serotonin already in the body. 

Side-effects of CBD oil

Despite CBD’s well-tolerance, it has many side effects. In general, CBD use may have some risks. It may interact with supplements and other medications. Most CBD products do not have FDA approval, which means they have not been thoroughly tested. While these may vary from person to person, some reported that CBD oil’s side effects include anxiety, mood changes, nausea, drowsiness, appetite changes, and dizziness.  

Hemp Oil: Do not panic, it is organic!

CBD oil and hemp oil are both extracted from the same species of Cannabis sativa plant. But it is a separate product. Hemp oil is prepared using hemp seeds. It is extracted in the same way as olive oil does. Growing hemp has only recently become legal in several nations and states. It is due to the industrial applications and benefits it brings.

Positive effects of hemp oil on mental health 

Several studies have shown that hemp oil contains cannabinoids that can help relieve depression and anxiety, particularly social anxiety. Oil derived from hemp contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It has health benefits such as boosting memory and preventing age-related cognitive problems. Hemp oil has components that protect the brain and nervous system. It may also aid with ADHD, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and childhood seizure disorders. Add a hemp oil supplement to your daily routine if you wish to increase your mental sharpness or mood. But, do not forget to see your doctor. 

Side effects of hemp oil

Those with chronically low blood pressure might experience complications because hemp seed oil lowers blood pressure. Whole hemp seeds can cause a variety of side effects. It includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hypertension. Hemp can also lower potassium levels. When diuretics and hemp are together, potassium levels might become dangerously low. 

Consulting a doctor should be a priority  

You should consult a doctor or a mental health expert if you are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or any mental health disorder. Self-medicating with CBD or Hemp Oil can create treatment delays. CBD has the potential to trigger some symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, and psychosis. If you still want to try CBD as a supplement to your usual medication, consult with a doctor who can help you track your symptoms. Based on your symptoms, your doctor may suggest a product and dose that is right for you.
